Before you install
QPad is a Windows app. The results view uses Microsoft Edge WebView2, which comes with Windows 11 and up-to-date Windows 10 machines.
Required to run QPad and your scripts. If it is missing, the installer stops with a link to the download: dotnet.microsoft.com (choose “.NET Desktop Runtime”, x64).
To query a database with LINQ, you need access to SQL Server (LocalDB works too) or PostgreSQL, or an SQLite file. Everything else works without one.
Tip: With the .NET 10 SDK installed, code completion also shows the documentation for .NET methods, not just their signatures.
Installation
Open QPad.msi. If Windows shows “Windows protected your PC”, choose More info and
Run anyway. The message appears because the installer is not code-signed yet.
Install just for you needs no administrator rights and puts QPad in your own profile. Install for all users of this machine puts it in Program Files and requires an administrator.
Find QPad in the Start menu. An example is ready in the editor – press F5 and see the result.
Updating and uninstalling
A new version installs right over the old one. Your queries, connections and settings live outside the program folder and are kept both when you update and when you uninstall.
QPad tells you at startup when a newer version is available. Download the latest file and run it. The previous version is replaced automatically.
Windows Settings → Apps → Installed apps → QPad → Uninstall.
To remove your data as well, delete %APPDATA%\QPad (settings and connections),
%LOCALAPPDATA%\QPad (cache, packages and logs) and, if you like, Documents\QPad (your qPad files).
The help page explains run modes, qPad files and folders, databases, NuGet packages and keyboard shortcuts.
